The year just ended began with high hopes and anticipation for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. While the Covid-19 pandemic that took hold since March turned the entire world’s expectations upside down, the Paralympic Movement saw glimmers of light during a dark year.

“A year devoid of much sporting action turned out to be busier than ever, given the complex and unprecedented challenge we faced. What could have been an absorbing Tokyo 2020 had to be postponed, but with assurances that 2021 will have more to offer, and will be a celebration of humanity overcoming a crisis.”

In this video, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) takes a look back at the highlights of 2020 and looks forward, with hope and high expectations, to 2021.

As the New Year begins, the IPC looks to go beyond the field of play, push the disability rights agenda and show the world that “Change Starts with Sport“.
